If you have been watching “The Pacific” on HBO then you have a small idea of what my Dad went through. He was at Guadalcanal and some of the following battles as a Navy medic attached to the Marines. I am amazed that he could come home and live a somewhat “normal” life. He married, had children, signed up for the reserves, and ended up in Korea for almost a year.
In 2005 my Dad died and was buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota. This weekend lots of people will be going to place flowers and/or flags on the graves of loved ones. I can’t be there so I’m trying to remember him with this blog post. Think about him almost every day and especially when I hear the song, “Leader of the Band” by Dan Fogelberg.
RIP Dad, your family is carrying on your legacy.
